Election Political Cartoons due Thurs 10/25
5 cartoons: 2 about Romney, 2 about Obama, 1 about the 2012 election in general.
Print out (or sketch/describe if you can't print) each cartoon. Paste in appropriate side of notebook (the general one can go in the middle). Under or next to each one, write a paragraph that explains the cartoon. You also must cite the source--cartoonist's name (if you can read it), publication and date of cartoon (see example below for cartoon to left). This cartoon is first and foremost a reference to Clint Eastwood's Superbowl halftime ad. Obama's quote is not about the ad or the Superbowl, but about the fact that the Republicans have been battling it out in the primary elections. Obama is relaxing on the sidelines, because as the incumbent, he does not have to worry about the primaries and knows he will get his party's nomination to run for reelection. But for the Republicans, it's still anyone's game. Jack Ohman, The Oregonian, 2/7/12 |
